Reader Group calendar
Apr 30 2008, 2:55 AM EDT
HiI was wondering if anyone thought it might be useful to set up a reader group calendar so we know what months other libraries are doing a particular book. If we want to read a book the calendar can help us decide the best month to schedule it. For example if a library is doing Carpentaria in June, then it may not be a good time for other groups to read that book. If anyone is keen let me know and I will start a new page! thanks NatG 2 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you?

I think that it's a great idea, I'm sure it would help our book club leaders organise their ILL request for certain titles much more efficiently. In addition to ensuring that there are no clashes with demand, it would also stimulate interest in what other book groups are reading, all in the one area without hitting up individual websites. What about author talks??? Or should that be something separate? similar concept ...but instead of a calendar how about a mapping site showing authors who are willing to present at libraries free of charge. This would also include information such as their contact details, preparation details, and other pertinent information. What do you think??? Do you find this valuable? |

I think both of these ideas sound great. Not only would the Calendars allow libraries to plan their own program, but would be a great for libraries to get feedback from other libraries who have already "Read" the book they are considering. Also libraries could consider organising books around a theme which could flow from library to library. Let me know if you would like some help with either idea. WillC Do you find this valuable? |

I think this would be a very positive step as we are running 5 book clubs a month at the moment!
