Liz Maverick on the phases of readershipThis is a featured page

Liz Maverick

Liz writes mash-ups in that she uses a whole lot of cross-genres such as urban fantasy romance. Liz tries to use a lot of her life experiences in her books. She never felt the need to hide her reading but her family were horrified when she started to write romances. She is from a big reading and educational television household.

THE PHASES OF READERSHIP

First Phase
Discovery - remembering the first romance that you read. Her first one she “took” from her holiday rental – and she still has it and loves it.

Second Phase
Glomming – glomming is when you start acquiring and stocking an author due to their one book. Liz Maverick’s first glom was Connie Brockway. And your reaction is always either a high pitch OMG or a low pitch OMG upon discovering a great author.
Advanced Glomming – This is when you discover an author – say Loretta Chase or Jenny Crusie and you just have to get hold of their older backlist titles.
Glomming Phd - is buying first editions only
Glomming Sainthood – is buying every copy of every edition of every book
International Glomming Sainthood – In every language that is is published – no-one ever achieves this.

Third Phase
Collection – It’s annoying to have to explain to people that you have TBR piles. And then having to justify all the books you own.

Fourth Phase
Water cooling phase – The need to discuss your romance reading and why it is great everyone you know should also read it.

Fifth Phase
Evangelising – You can’t stop you have to get people to read the titles. Compulsively need them to read it then discuss it with you.
