What is a book group? A gathering of people who meet once a month or so for one of the following reasons:

- The possibility of meeting kindred spirits
- Social interaction – breaking into a new area/location
- An escape from the negative parts of the daily reality they face, be that overwhelming work demands, cranky toddlers, or boredom
- Tuition-free intellectual stimulation
- Intellectual stimulation without the formality & process of an educational institution
Types of Book Groups
Broadly, these could be grouped into
- Leadered groups, who have a paid professional at the helm, who run the group for others
- Library or book store groups – these may be run by a leader, but typically are free of charge and open to anyone who happens by
- Living room groups – usually more select groups, meeting in members homes on a fairly regular basis.

Is anybody interested in using this forum as a register of Book Club swaps ? I have included a list of titles I currently have available to swap but it seems a bit clunky doing this as a thread . Maybe a new page would be more accessible ?

Hi
I was wondering if anyone thought it might be useful to set up a reader group calendar so we know what months other libraries are doing a particular book. If we want to read a book the calendar can help us decide the best month to schedule it. For example if a library is doing Carpentaria in June, then it may not be a good time for other groups to read that book. If anyone is keen let me know and I will start a new page! thanks NatG
